Champagne de Sousa
Avize
Eric De Sousa was a pioneer of biodynamic winemaking in Champagne—and a master at combining tension and maturity. His wines from Avize are among the most mineral and profound in the Côte des Blancs. His three children now manage the estate.
Since the 1990s, he has cultivated his Grand Cru vineyards (Avize, Oger, Cramant) biodynamically. Old vines, deep roots, and selective harvesting form the basis of his sparkling wines. Aging takes place partly in oak barrels and partly in stainless steel, often with extended lees contact.
Peter Liem considers him one of the "iconic grower-producers" and praises the "masterful balance between substance and energy." The "Cuvée des Caudalies," made from vines over 50 years old, is considered a masterpiece.
“Champagne is not a trick. It is an expression of the depths beneath our feet.” – Eric De Sousa (Terres de Vins, 2019)
Champagne De Sousa proves that organic is not a trend, but a way of life – and its champagnes are its sparkling voice.
