Domaine Denis Mortet / Maison Arnaud Mortet
Gevrey-Chambertin
Few winemakers' names in Gevrey are more emotionally charged: Denis Mortet was a superstar of the 1990s – celebrated, overwhelmed, and tragically deceased. Since 2006, his son Arnaud has run the estate – with love, discipline, and growing inner strength.
Arnaud Mortet has continued his father's stylistic reorientation: less extraction, less new oak, more finesse. The Domaine now cultivates around 16 hectares – biodynamically inspired, without a label. Vines in Chambertin, Lavaux, and Clos Prieur are meticulously tended, vinified with 30–100% whole clusters.
The wines are deep, powerful, yet surprisingly delicate. Jasper Morris praises the "excellent balance of structure and silkiness," while William Kelley speaks of an "impressive evolution."
“I want the precision of today and the soul of yesterday.” – Arnaud Mortet (Bourgogne Aujourd’hui, 2020)
Denis Mortet is more than a tribute – it is a shining chapter in Burgundy’s present.
