Champagne Egly-Ouriet
Ambonnay
Few names embody terroir-driven Champagne as uncompromisingly as Egly-Ouriet. Francis Egly has transformed the family estate in Ambonnay into an icon – producing Pinot Noir of power and depth that delights Burgundy enthusiasts and sparkling wine aficionados alike.
Egly cultivates around 12 hectares of Grand Cru vineyards – primarily in Ambonnay, but also in Bouzy and Verzenay. He cultivates old vines, employs biodynamic principles (though without official certification), and maintains extremely low yields. The base wines are fermented in oak barrels with extended lees aging, often up to 100 months. Malolactic fermentation is sometimes suppressed, and dosage is minimal or omitted entirely.
Peter Liem calls Egly "one of the first to treat Champagne like wine," while Antonio Galloni speaks of "monumental depth with Burgundian precision." His "Vieilles Vignes" and "Blanc de Noirs" are highly sought-after cult wines.
“I make wine – it only sparkles by chance.” – Francis Egly (La Revue du Vin de France, 2014)
Egly-Ouriet stands for uncompromising precision – and shows how seriously Champagne can be taken.
