Domaine Thibault Liger-Belair
Nuits Saint Georges
He combines Burgundian aristocratic lineage with punk-like determination: Thibault Liger-Belair is a winemaker of extremes – and one of the most committed biodynamic practitioners in Burgundy.
Since 2001, he has run the family estate in Nuits-Saint-Georges. He cultivates parcels in Moulin-à-Vent, Vosne-Romanée, Gevrey, Nuits, and Richebourg – sometimes with horses, always biodynamically. In the cellar: whole bunches of grapes, minimal intervention, plenty of time. His wines are powerful, but never heavy, profound, but never loud.
Another distinctive feature: all the wood for the estate's barrels comes from its own forests.
Thibault is a sought-after speaker at biodynamic conferences, and his wines are celebrated worldwide. Jasper Morris describes them as "wines with a soul and a spine."
“I don’t make natural wine. I make wine with nature.” – Thibault Liger-Belair (Burgundy Report, 2021)
His wines from Moulin-à-Vent are among the best in Beaujolais – and show how revolutionary tradition can be.
